About Lines & Wrinkles

Fine Lines & WrinklesOver time, each one of us will get visible lines and wrinkles on areas like our face, neck, the backs of our hands, and décolletage; they’re a natural part of the aging process. But our philosophy is: the earlier you start treating these visible signs of aging, the less pronounced they’ll be—and the younger you’ll look…for longer (and the more confident you’ll feel).

“The new Radiesse filler makes hands look years younger. It’s painless and has no recovery time. Results are immediate and simply amazing because it pumps the skin.”
— Dr. Dennis Gross

What causes lines/wrinkles?

At the root of lines and wrinkles is a slowing down in the production of collagen, the main building block of skin—a protein—that makes skin strong and resilient. This can begin as early as in your 20s. Elastin is another protein that gives your skin its elasticity, or ability to stretch and recoil. The age at which this breakdown begins differs for each individual, depending on his or her genes. But know that good genetics can be quickly undone by a number of common lifestyle factors:

Sun exposure

We advocate daily use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen—particularly after receiving cosmetic wrinkle treatments as the results of these wrinkle treatments won’t last if you continue to get unprotected sun exposure.

The reason: Exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays (which can even penetrate through car and office windows) breaks down collagen and elastin in the skin, damaging the DNA of skin cells (the genetic coding that determines how your skin ages). This process triggers premature aging of the skin (e.g. fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, dryness, and loss of elasticity), as well as skin cancer.

While nothing can help completely undo years of sun damage, numerous wrinkle treatments we offer can help reverse the effects, helping to build up collagen and smoothing out skin (and lines and wrinkles) in the process. These include chemical peels, fillers, facials, light therapy, and lasers.

Repeated facial expressions

Facial movements or expressions, such as raising your brow or frowning, can cause fine lines and wrinkles. Every time you use a facial muscle, a groove forms right under skin’s surface. As skin ages, it looses its elasticity and, after making an expression, is no longer able to spring back to its former state.

We can reduce and prevent these facial expression lines by treating the muscles through injectables like Botox® and Dysport®—in the most natural-looking way—that are forming these creases.

Filling facial lines and wrinkles can also help smooth the skin. We offer the very latest, safest, and most effective fillers—both temporary and semi-permanent—to help achieve a more youthful appearance. These include Restylane®, Juvéderm®, Perlane®, Voluma®, Radiesse®, Belotero Balance®, and Sculptra®.

Exfoliation

How often you exfoliate can determine how youthful your skin looks. When you force cells to turn over (exfoliate), you encourage the growth of new collagen and less lined skin. Chemical peels, lasers, and light therapy can help accelerate the skin’s natural exfoliation process (which slows down with aging), giving you more youthful, radiant skin.

Before & After

FAQs

I’ve heard that Botox is harmful—why I haven’t gotten it. Is there any truth to this?
Botox®—and other injectables like Dysport® that work similarly to immobilize facial expression lines—has been extensively tested and used without adverse effects. But it is extremely important to have Botox® or Dysport®injected by a board-certified, physician. In the wrong hands, these injectables can cause problems like eyelid droop, swelling, extensive bruising, and more. In the right hands, these injectables can give you smoother, younger-looking skin. We inject the right amount, not excessive amounts, in order to achieve a very natural look.
Do all peels cause redness and dryness?
Peels scare me. No, the right peels such as the 2-step peels we offer, will be non-irritating, safely detaching only the dead skin cells at the surface, leaving the healthy cells intact.  Your skin will feel soft and refreshed, with no downtime.
Will fillers make me look puffy or unnatural looking?

Our goal is to customize your treatment plan to ensure you look refreshed and natural, a more youthful version of you – not puffy.
